Senseo SL7832/55 Single Serve Supreme Coffee Machine, Chrome

Monday, September 20, 2010

Uniquely designed, this coffeemaker brews a single serving of fresh gourmet coffee at the touch of a button, in under a minute. Because the appliance uses pre-measured coffee pods, the system is hassle-free, easy to clean, and guarantees a fresh, flavorful brew each time. The machine's mild 1.2-bar pressure system and special spray head produce an optimally balanced coffee-filtering process, while its patented "frothing chamber" ensures a frothy coffee layer. Simply fill the removable 32-ounce water reservoir with water, insert a pod, and lock the lid into place. The coffeemaker allows for selecting from multiple serving sizes using its interactive LCD display. Choose from a 3-ounce, 4-ounce, or 5-ounce cup, or a 6-ounce, 8-ounce or 10-ounce mug. Depending on the cup size selected and the number of pods used, it's easy to create a stronger or milder cup of coffee. Other highlights include an adjustable spout that can be raised and lowered to accommodate different size mugs, water-level indicator lights, dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup, and a free tea-pod holder. Shaped like a curved cylinder with a round base, the coffeemaker measures approximately 13-1/2 by 12 by 8-1/2 inches.

From the Manufacturer

Senseo’s Supreme Single-Serve gourmet coffeemaker boasts an array of improvements designed to enable the consumer to further personalize their coffee experience at home. First and foremost, this new coffeemaker enables consumers to select their desired coffee size by using an interactive LCD display. Unlike the original Senseo coffeemaker that brewed a maximum of 8 ounces, the Supreme can brew up to 10 ounces. The Supreme model also comes with an adjustable spout, which can raise and lower to accommodate different size mugs. And large households won’t have to take frequent trips to the sink to accommodate everyone’s morning caffeine fix--a 33% larger water reservoir now generates four 8-ounce cups from a full tank. Aesthetic refinements include a new chrome silver body. The new Senseo Supreme is now available in chrome silver.

All Senseo coffeemakers combines an integrated brewing system from Philips Electronics with high quality coffee pods from Sara Lee’s Douwe Egberts brand, one of Europe’s premiere coffee brands for more than 250 years, to create a perfect cup of coffee. The result of over 7 years of research and development, this coffeemaker brews a consistent, balanced cup of coffee each time with a unique frothy coffee layer. Brewing a sensational cup of fresh, gourmet coffee every time, at the touch of a button, the Senseo is perfect for coffee lovers of all varieties.
The Senseo's mild pressure system heats water to 205 degrees Fahrenheit in a boiler consistently every time. Via the mild pressure system, the heated water is forced through the machine and is evenly distributed over the pre-measured coffee pod(s.) Exiting through a pinhole in the pod tray, the newly brewed Senseo coffee is projected into the base of the patented "frothing chamber" where it is lightly aerated to produce the frothy coffee layer. The machine brews at 1.2 bars. Espresso machines typically brew at 9 bars or higher and drip brewers do not use pressure. The machine then distributes either individual or double servings of gourmet Senseo coffee simultaneously--the whole process taking on average only 45 seconds.

Easy to Use, Flavorful Results

Like all Senseo’s, the Supreme is simple to use--start by filling the handy removable reservoir up to the "max" line. Then, insert the pods you are using, and lock the lid into place. Then, adjust the spout to the correct height for the coffee mug being used. Next, at the touch of a new button, you can illuminate up to three bars on the interactive LCD screen, with the following corresponding coffee volumes, To brew three, four or five ounces of coffee, use one pod, press the one cup button and select one, two or three volume select bars, respectively. To make six, eight or ten ounces of coffee, use two pods, press the two cup button and select one, two or three volume select bars, respectively. To make clean up easy, the removable parts, including pod holders, reservoir, coffee spout, plastic drip tray, and metal cup tray, are dishwasher-safe.

Senseo offers a varied selection of blends and flavors. In addition to the first four original blends, Medium, Dark, and Decaffeinated, you can also choose from Breakfast Blend, Paris Vanilla Bistro, Vienna Hazelnut Waltz, Sumatra Blend, Brazil Blend, Kenya Blend, Senseo Cappuccino, and Senseo Espresso.

Customer Reviews

Senseo Supreme,
I like the feature that you can move the spigot up to accomodate a higher or larger cup. I love the creamy top that is created as the coffee is brewed. I absolutely need my coffee to get the morning going right and the fact that I can make a 3 cup serving into my mug is so convenient. The coffee may be a bit more expensive than just ground coffee but there is no waste. I often brew one more cup from the same pods and although a bit weaker it is still delicious on those mornings I need the 4th cup to give me a kick start. It is attractive on my counter top too. I'm very pleased with it.

I love this one!,
My Senseo Single Serve Supreme machine arrived yesterday. I have owned 2 previous machines and loved them. While I hear people complaining about a "plastic taste" I have not had that experience at all. Last year I purchased a "pod maker" machine and find that by grinding my own beans and making my own pods, I get wonderfully tasteful coffee. Today I enjoyed some delicious Godiva coffee!

The adjustable spout won't accommodate those really tall coffee cups, but it is better than the previous models. The unit, while not actually "chrome" is attractive too. My only complaint is that the extra large water tank that I bought for my previous unit doesn't fit this model.

Coffee Heaven,
Great product! Easy to use! If the're was a coffee heaven this Senseo would take me there. Less than 2 minutes to have a fresh cup or even a mug of coffee. If you like regular, dark, medium, flavored coffee, you can with this Machine.

COFFE TASTES LIKE PLASTIC!!!!!!,
My neighbor has had an old senseo machine for years, and I always remarked that it made the best coffee ever. So I finally bought a new one for myself and the coffee tastes nothing like my neighbors coffee, and I'm using the same pods! What comes out is a flat, tepid, plastic tasting brew that is undrinkable in my opinion. Save yourself the headache and expense of returning this machine.

A once great product line is now the worst -- AVOID!,
There was no bigger fan of the first generation of Senseo machines than my wife and I. We bought one when they first came out in 2001, and it made the richest, foamiest smoothest cup of coffee you could get without traveling to a Paris Bistro. It put Starbucks and all other coffee shop coffee to shame, not to mention all other coffee makers. It truly gave you something to look forward to in the morning.

Well, our original Senseo machine gave out after a decade of continuous use, and I ordered this new one. Out of the box, I noticed the water chamber did not fit snugly into it's slot like it was supposed to. It stuck out crooked by 1/2" from the back of the machine -- an obvious manufacturing flaw. I then followed the start up procedures to the letter, used the same water and Senso pods we always use, and out came the worst cup of coffee imaginable. Tepid, weak, practically no foam at all, and a strong plastic aftertaste that stays with you.

After comparing the coffee chamber to our old one, it has many differences. The most important of which is the top part of the pod chamber, which used to be all metal (like a fine espresso machine) is now all plastic. The pod chamber is the most important part of the machine, as it controls the temperature and pressure that extracts the coffee essence from the grounds in the pod, along with the level of foam that's imparted. The operating temperature, pressure and foam generation have all been reduced to accommodate the cheaper plastic chamber, which equals less coffee in your coffee. At the same time, the strong plastic taste imparted by the pod chamber gives you the feeling your getting your complete RDA of melted plastic in your body every day :-).

I called Seseo support, and they told me Phillips is no longer producing these machines -- Senseo is now owned and manufactured by Sarah Lee, so the Phillips Logo is only on there for perceived brand continuity among consumers. The support person admitted the mechanics of the machine had been completely changed from the first generation, and refused to refund my very expensive shipping ($46) to and from saying taste was a matter of opinion and they can't be responsible for that. I asked if she had ever tried coffee from the Senseo machines she's selling, and she said no, to which I replied that she might want to so she could see for herself that the coffee that comes out of their machine is so bad that it's a matter of public record, not opinion.

I can't offer any advice on what to buy instead, I'm still mourning the loss of what was the best coffee maker I will ever own in my lifetime, along with my $46 in shipping to and from. I welcome any suggestions.

Coffee Maker- Yes! Coffee- Noooooo,
I like this coffee maker. I love the fact that I don't have to bother with cleaning out a coffee pot every day, measuring the coffee, making sure I don't run out of filters. It's fast, it's super easy and it works exactly how it's described.
It only gets 3 stars because the coffee itself is bad. Senseo partnered with a really substandard brand (Douwe Egberts) of coffee for their pods. It's a shame. I wish I'd checked out the quality of the coffee before I had purchased the machine. If I don't find a ready supply of well-priced pods by a different brand, I might have to chuck the Senseo and go with a different single-cup manufacturer. Douwe Egberts coffee is weak (and I use the "Dark Roast" 2 pods!) and dusty tasting. It really is reminiscent of coffee-shop coffee - not gourmet coffee.

Senseo Supreme Coffee Machine,
Bought as a gift for a friend. I get a thank you every time we talk. She loves it.

Watered down coffee,
We had to replace our old Senseo because of the recall. It was a great coffee maker, but after two years it wouldn't work all the time.
We purchased the new and "improved" Senseo and our coffee is very watered down...no matter how we set the machine, it comes out watery.
Very dissappointed!!

Great one cup coffee maker,
We love the Senseo. Makes great coffee and you can easily adjust the strength by changing the water or by adding another pod. We use it every day. Perfect in our house as hubby drinks regular while I drink decaf.
Absolutely Wonderful Cup of Coffee!,
So easy, so fast, so many things to adjust it so you get just the amount of coffee you want and at the exact strength you want!
Senseo Supreme Coffee Maker,
I love the Senseo coffee maker. I in particular appreciate that 95% of the pods are made with paper and are biodegradable so I can put it into my compost pail. The main reason that I purchased the Senseo (which I had never heard about) was because of Consumer Reports description of it. I never waste coffee anymore and that was the main reason for purchasing this coffee maker. I will never go back to the regular machine.
