Customer Reviews

You get what you pay for,
I get this machine and, like any other person who gets exciting when boxes of merchandise arrive, I open and use it right away. First off, it is Really, Really small. I had to tilt my smallest coffee cup to get it under the pump. That lost it a point. It does look fairly nice, but has problems. I made one or two cappuccinos successfully and tasted great. Also, the filter requires average-sized grained coffee. Smaller grains will not go through the filter, causing a soupy mess in the filter. I tried to make my second or third cappuccino and no water was going through. I called customer service to find out that my machine was defective JUST 2 DAYS AFTER OPENING IT!

Happy camper 1 + year,
I agree with most of the points of the positive reviews. I've had mine for over a year now and it works great, doesn't take up too much counter space, and makes me drink more coffee that I did before.

I didn't want to spend a lot on an espresso machine when I wasn't sure how much I'd really use it compared to the standard coffee pot and space is at a premium in my kitchen--so the small size is a big plus. Well, I use it a lot. Enough that I started reading reviews of more expensive units thinking I might choose to upgrade. My decision so far is that I'll stick with it for now.

I like that I can use pods when in a hurry or grind and use my own coffee when time allows.

I did buy a metal tamper and that was a big improvement.

Highly Recommend,
I have tried several low priced espresso makers and never been satisfied. This one, although very reasonably priced, really does the job. It produces the perfect crema using ground coffee or using Starbucks pods. The espresso machine arrived before the tamper; so, I did a bit of experimenting with the proper tamper pressure. Once I found the proper pressure, using the built-in tamper, I found the tamper I bought unnecessary. I also use it for cappuccino and find the steam pressure just about right to produce the perfect steamed milk. I do wish the steam outlet were a bit higher and longer. I find I am somewhat limited as to the size of the steaming pitcher; but, having gotten used to it, it is a very small negative. I highly recommend this machine together with a bit of Sambuca.

Excellent Value for the Money!,
This product provides excellent value for the money! My wife has been asking for an espresso maker for years, but being students, we couldn't afford the usual $300-$1000 price tag you see on most. Last x-mas, after reading reviews on this one, I decided to take a chance... she loves it! She uses it 2 times a day on average for herself and loves making coffee for guests. She's been very pleased with the ease of use, great quality coffee and I'm very pleased it didn't cost us a fortune! She does keep it clean (running the citric acid approximately once every 2-3months depending on use) but finds as long as you clean it, it provides excellent quality espressos!

Note: I will not make any claims as to the quality of the milk frother as she has never used that feature.

Very good product

Unbeatable for the price,
This product does exacrly what it says it will. A great cup of espresso with excellent crema. It's easy to operate. My first attempt worked beautifully. The only thing I don't know is how long it will last. It's small enough to fit nicely on the countertop. You need a small frothing pitcher to get under the steaming arm. You also need small shot cups to set properly on the base of the machine. I recommend this product.

Very pleased,
I just upgraded to this, my first pump-driven machine, from a steam machine. The espresso this puts out is real espresso, not the strong coffee of the steam machine. It would be good if the heater tank would hold the temperature a little longer than it does, but for pulling 1-2 shots, as this machine was designed to do, it works fine. The steamer wand could be fixed with a very slight re-design. It just needs to have a couple more bends in it to get it to the height needed to get a 12 oz pitcher under it easily. After reading reviews and instructions for this machine, I thought it would be more difficult to operate, but it is no more complicated than my old steam machine. In fact, it has a couple features that make it easier. I did buy a tamper and a couple espresso cups along with the EC-155. That was good advice that I picked up from other reviewers. Great little espresso maker, as long as you understand that it is designed to produce a maximum of 2 shots at a time. Think of this as a personal espresso maker - if you want to make espresso for a party, rent a commercial machine.

Very good!,
I love this espresso maker! You don't have to be knowledgeable in espresso to use this. I've had it for a week now and it has made great espresso's. Highly recommend this!!

DeLonghi makes an unbelievable idiot-proof espresso!,
My husband and I highly recommend this machine! You can't find better for this price -- or any price -- we think. You will not regret it; the frothy crema it makes is wonderful. You will need to buy shot glasses and the ones Amazon recommends (the Bodum ones), as well as the tamper, were an excellent choice. We can't believe we have lived without this machine. It makes better espressos than most coffee shops we frequent.

Excellent espresso maker for the price,
I have used this product about a dozen times now. I use it exclusively with pods for ease of cleaning. It is very easy to use and makes very good espresso. It heats up very rapidly and the frothing wand works well.

Great Espresso machine,
I bought this machine for my boyfriend as a birthday suprise. I worked in a coffee house for awhile and read all the reviews on this product. Everyone who gave it a good review is 100% correct. It is a great at home product for beginners. There are some problems:
1. The espresso does not come out as hot as industrial machines.
(solution: warm your cup)
2. The wand is awakard when steaming milk.
(solution: use a very small carafe)
3. Do not expect to get a decent crema (once again this is an at home machine not industrial)
(solution: use common sense when understanding the limitations of the machine)
