Senseo SL7810/65 Single-Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine, Black

Monday, September 20, 2010

Uniquely designed, this coffeemaker brews a single serving of fresh gourmet coffee at the touch of a button. Because the machine uses premeasured coffee pods, the system is hassle-free, is easy to clean, and guarantees a flavorful, fresh brew each time. Measuring 13-1/2 by 12 by 8-1/2 inches, the coffeemaker is shaped like a curved cylinder with a round base. Two pod holders are included: a shallow holder that holds one coffee pod for one cup, and a deeper filter that holds two pods for two cups (or one 8-ounce mug). After filling the removable reservoir with fresh water to the "max" line, the pods are inserted and the lid locked into place. A simple push of the "on/off" button and either of the one- or two-cup buttons starts the brewing process. Up to five 4-ounce cups can be brewed on one reservoir of water. Cups are not included, but almost any 4-ounce cup or 8-ounce mug will do the trick. All the removable parts--the pod holders, reservoir, coffee spout, plastic drip tray, and metal cup tray--are dishwasher-safe. The coffeemaker carries a two-year limited warranty and a variety of coffee pods are available separately. Also, Senseo was awarded the ChefsBest award for best performing single-serve coffee appliance. The ChefsBest Award for Performance is awarded to the brand rated highest overall among leading brands by independent professional chefs.

From the Manufacturer

The Senseo coffeemaker combines an integrated brewing system from Philips Electronics with high quality coffee pods from Sara Lee’s Douwe Egberts brand, one of Europe’s premiere coffee brands for more than 250 years, to create a perfect cup of coffee. The result of over 7 years of research and development, this coffeemaker brews a consistent, balanced cup of coffee each time with a unique frothy coffee layer. Brewing a sensational cup of fresh, gourmet coffee every time, at the touch of a button, the Senseo is perfect for coffee lovers of all varieties.
The Senseo's mild pressure system heats water to 205 degrees fahrenheit in a boiler consistently every time. Via the mild pressure system, the heated water is forced through the machine and is evenly distributed over the pre-measured coffee pod(s.) Exiting through a pinhole in the pod tray, the newly brewed Senseo coffee is projected into the base of the patented "frothing chamber" where it is lightly aerated to produce the frothy coffee layer. The machine brews at 1.2 bars. Espresso machines typically brew at 9 bars or higher and drip brewers do not use pressure. The machine then distributes either individual or double servings of gourmet Senseo coffee simultaneously--the whole process taking on average only 45 seconds.

Easy to Use, Flavorful Results

The Senseo is simple to use--start by filling the handy removable reservoir up to the "max" line. Then, insert the pods you are using, and lock the lid into place. Next, push the "on/off" button and the brewing process begins with either one or two cups. You can brew up to five 4-ounce cups on a single reservoir of water. To make clean up easy, the removable parts, including pod holders, reservoir, coffee spout, plastic drip tray, and metal cup tray, are dishwasher-safe. Senseo offers a varied selection of blends and flavors. In addition to the first four original blends, Mild, Medium, Dark, and Decaffeinated, you can also choose from Paris Vanilla Bistro, Killarney Irish Creamery, Vienna Hazelnut Waltz, Senseo Sumatra, and Senseo Cappuccino. Senseo Cappuccino‘s specially designed pod contains premium coffee with a separate layer of creamer housed in an innovative "honeycomb" to ensure it blends evenly with the coffee. The result is an extra luxurious cappuccino, at the touch of a button, with no extra steps involved.

Customer Reviews

Senseo Coffee Maker,

The best. Beats any of those "CUP" makers. If you live in Canada however you will have problems getting the coffee. For some reason I have not been able to determine the coffee will not be shipped to a Canadian Address!! If you find it in Canada it costs TWICE as much.

Only for those who like "regular" coffee,

If you like regular coffee, the Senseo may work well for you.

If you like very strong coffee, as we do, it's not a good option. Even with two pods and a small amount of water, it just doesn't produce a strong enough coffee for us. We like to mix it with some frothed milk, but it's too weak to really add much milk to at all. We can do that with a coffee maker or french press (by adding more coffee), or with an espresso machine, but not with this. Fair enough, it's not an espresso machine, it's not even a Nespresso machine ... but it's a disappointment. I'll try some other pods, and maybe making my own with my own coffee, but if that doesn't help, we won't be keeping it.

I was happy to get 18 free pods with the machine. But the first cup of coffee I made with the Dark Roast pods that were included was truly awful. Luckily I had some Kona pods to try, much better. I'm not sure if it was the coffee blend, or the age of those pods. So try another, fresh variety before giving up on the machine.

It will take a little startup time. You need to flush the machine a number of times. I did a vinegar/water flush, just in case the nasty taste from the first cup was something to do with needing to clean the plastic.

It's plenty fast. The noise level is quite low, in my opinion. Unless someone is sleeping in the same room, it's not likely to be a problem for anyone.

The machine works well enough. There are a couple glitches:
- The stopper that's supposed to close the reservoir at the bottom never re-seals itself, so it leaks water all over every time I take the reservoir out, until I pop it up and down again. Not a big deal, but not convenient either.
- The one pod holder seems to brew better coffee than the two pod holder. So much so that I'm probably going to do 2 x 1 pod. Not really what it's supposed to do. I'll try making sure the pods are flat, there's a good seal, etc. - but at some point if I have to fool around or it's not consistent, it starts to defeat the purpose of having this machine.

Personally, I think the machine could be smaller, too. The base doesn't need to be so large at the front. Then it might be able to justify the counter space it takes up, for us.

Easy to use coffee machine,no mess, always a good cup,

Senseo coffee machine makes a very good cup of coffee every time You use it.
Easy to operate,no mess, simple to clean as well.

Great European Coffee at the touch of a button!,

I love our Senseo coffee machine. First of all it has a sleek elegant design and is so easy to use. If you like the taste of European coffee, you get a very good version of it with Senseo. I often even just use 1 "dark roast" pod and hit the "double" button, and for me, it gives me a great tasting cup of European style coffee that is still not TOO strong. So I get just about a full mug of rich creamy coffee, with only using 1 pod. If you want something more strong, or more like an espresso, then you can use 1 pod and hit the single button, and even stop it a little earlier if you wish. The coffee pods may be a little on the expensive side, but you get good deals buying in bulk with Amazon as well. It is certainly worth the price ... and life is too short to drink cheap coffee every morning!

Sensational Senseo,

The Senseo Coffee Maker is truly easy and efficient and fast and makes a great cup of coffee!

Great for the office,
I got this for our office where we have occasionally coffee-drinkers. Perfect when we have small groups where some want caf and some want decaf.

Senseo SL7810/65 Single Serve Coffee Maker,
Love the coffee from this single serve machine. Very easy to use and much less expensive to buy both machine and pods vs. Kuerig brand.
Coffee is very tasty and love the frothy part. Reminds me a latte at a fraction of the cost. It does make small cups, so if you drink alot of coffee, you will go thru alot of pods. This isn't a problem for me, but could be a disappointment for some.
I recommend pouring milk in coffee mug before coffee brews into mug....this way the milk gets warmed up to along with the coffee!
